The West Side Historic District went on the National Register in 1974. It covers the blocks between Franklin, Maple, Church, and East Washington Streets, where Italianate houses built for the mill owners stand beside Queen Anne, Eastlake, Greek Revival, and simple hall-and-parlor homes. The East Side Historic District, around East Washington and Philomethian Streets, joined the Register in 2013.

How We Light Homes in West Side Historic District
These are village lots with houses near the street, so everything shows and nothing needs to be big. On an Italianate we follow the bracketed cornice and the porch; on a Queen Anne we pick the main gable and the porch roof rather than chase every turret line; on a Greek Revival the front-facing gable and the entry carry the design. Bulbs are spaced tight for a small facade. Everything clips to gutters and trim, so no hardware touches historic siding or woodwork.

West Side Historic District Association Rules
There's no homeowners association here. Permanent exterior changes to the Village's older homes go through the Architectural Board of Review, which weighs whether work preserves original features. A seasonal clip-on install adds no hardware, and everything comes down in January. If your home has an easement or its own restrictions, show us at the site walk.
What It Costs
$1,000 season minimum. Every home is quoted individually.
Terms run 2, 3, or 5 seasons. The per-season price steps down on the longer terms, and every season's price is written into the agreement. A 50% deposit holds your date; the balance is due at install.
Takedowns happen in January, weather permitting. If anything goes out during the season, text a photo, hear back the same day, and anything that's our fault is fixed within 48–72 hours, weather permitting, at no charge. Anything that's our fault is fixed at no charge for as long as the lights are up, within 48–72 hours, weather permitting.

West Side Historic District Questions
Do I need approval from the Village to put up holiday lights?
We're not aware of a Village rule on temporary holiday lights. Our clips attach to gutters and trim without screws or staples, and everything is removed in January. Check with the Village if your home is under a specific agreement.
My house has a complicated Victorian roofline. Where do the lights go?
We choose the strongest lines, usually the main gable and the porch, and leave the fussy details dark. The mockup shows you the exact layout before any install.
Can you do permanent lighting on a historic home?
Permanent lighting mounts to the house, which is a permanent change, so on a historic home we'd start with the Village's review process. Seasonal clip-on lighting avoids that.
